Alcove Cartel Regence period by Clement Fiacre circa 1720

Rare small cartel and its console in cut brass marquetry on a brown tortoiseshell background. French work from the Regency period, circa 1720.

Fiddled in shape, our cartel has a particularly fine decoration of staples and acanthus foliage after Jean Bérain.
The bottom of the case presents a trompe l'oeil perspective simulating the paving of a palace.
The upper part in the shape of a dome.
Rich ornamentation of finely chiseled and gilded original bronzes comprising two figures of putto with scythe symbolizing the passage of time.
The finely chiseled and engraved brass dial, with twelve white enamel cartridges indicating the hours in Roman numerals.

Original movement with three bells, suspension in silk thread.

Ring on demand by drawing the hours, half and quarters.

Dial and back plate of the movement signed “Fiacre Clement à Paris”.

Complete original balance mechanism.

On request the clock is delivered in perfect working order after revision by our watchmaker.

Fiacre Clement (died in Paris in 1758).
One of the most important Parisian watchmakers of the first half of the 18th century. After his accession to the master's degree, on January 16, 1714, he achieved great notoriety and set up his workshop in the mid-1740s, rue Saint-Denis (see Tardy, Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français, Paris, 1971, p. 131) . Two of his sons, Fiacre François and Claude, will continue the activity of the father's workshop until the beginning of the reign of Louis XVI.
