Very beautiful canvas, representing a young page in a luxurious interior with Japanese vases

CARRIER-BELLEUSE Louis Robert

Born July 4, 1848 in Paris. Died June 14, 1913 in Paris. XIX-XX centuries. French.

Sculptor and painter of genre, urban landscapes.

Son of the sculptor Albert Carrier-Belleuse and brother of the painter Pierre Carrier-Belleuse, he was first a pupil of his father, then of Cabanel and Boulanger at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
He made his debut as a painter at the 1870 Salon and only exhibited sculptures from 1889 to 1912. Honourable mention in 1887, silver medal at the 1889 Universal Exhibition, Knight of the Legion of Honour.

He was artistic director of the faience factory of Choisy-le-Roi, for which he designed models. As a sculptor he is the author of the "Tomb of President Barrais" in Guatemala, the National Monument of Costa Rica and numerous busts.

In painting he represents in a photographic way, the various small trades of Paris: newsagents, chimney sweepers, milk deliverymen...which gives his paintings a documentary interest. He also shows districts of Paris in transformation.
