A truly evocative athmoshere of Nordic winter, this Swedish Night, blue in the reflection of the snow, opens onto the golden light of a porch topped with a dome. Oil on canevas, signed , dated 1915 and situated Linköping.
Maja (Marie) Settebberg (Stockholm 1876–1950) was a female painter. She studied in 1895–1897 at the Stockholm Technical School and in 1897–1904 at the Academy of Fine Arts, where she also participated in the courses of engraving by Axel Tallberg. For her training, she stayed in Paris in 1903 and in Copenhagen in 1906. With Adèle Söderberg, she exhibited in 1909 in the Hultberg gallery in Stockholm. She was one of the initiators of the founding of the Konstnärsring in 1909, was responsible for its exhibitions and was a member of its board of directors until 1946. Her work consists of portraits of children, genre scenes and landscapes. M.Setterberg is represented, among others, by a portrait by Gösta Ekman in the Drottningholm Theater Museum.
