Venus disarms Love
French sculptor
White marble
Middle of the XIX Century
Sculpture height 56 cm - base height 7 cm - diameter 32 cm
Marble group depicting Venus in the act of disarming Love. In the centre is Venus, seated, with her arms stretched to the right to hide the bow and quiver. On the left, Amore raises his son with his arms raised.
It is an episode of the education of Eros, able to hit with his arrows any person and to ignite in it an irrepressible love passion, often causing harmful consequences. Venus aware of the unreasonableness of the little son, endowed with overwhelming powers, decides to punish him by removing the bow and bringing him to Mercury who as his teacher will introduce the god-child to the reading of the precepts that must order the feelings.
The sculpture rests on a base in grey marble enriched by a gilded bronze Gothic.
