Pair of drawings - Drölling Michel Martin (1786-1851)

Pair of drawings representing men's heads signed Drôlling Michel Martin born 1786 -1851 was a student of his father Martin Drölling, then of Jacques Louis David in 1806. His "Colère d'Achille" won him the Prix de Rome in 1810. After having stayed at the French Academy in Rome, from 1811 to 1816, he became known for his Death of Abel exhibited at the Salon of 1817. He then received numerous commissions and produced in particular The Law descends to earth, it establishes its empire and spreads its benefits for the ceiling of the hall of illustrious men in the Louvre Palace, The States-General of Tours in 1836 and The Convention of Alexandria in 1837 for the Museum of French History at the Palace of Versailles, Jesus among the doctors for the church of Notre-Dame-de-Lorette in Paris in 1840. He was elected member of the Academy of Fine Arts of the Institute of France in 1837, and was appointed professor at the School of Fine Arts in Paris.
His history paintings are in the neoclassical style.
Many of his drawings and paintings can be found in the Louvre and other museums.
