Pair of mahogany chairs, Consulate period, circa 1800

Pair of mahogany Etruscan-style chairs, Consulate period, early 19th century circa 1800.

That model was created around 1800 for the Tuileries Palace, then installed in 1807 in Fontainebleau in a Prince apartment. (Bibliography : Jean Pierre Samoyault, French Consulate and Empire Furniture, fig. 115 page 66). Our chairs are similar except that they are a richer model with the lion claws-shapes front feet.

Nor our chairs are stamped, neither those of the Tuileries. Nevertheless they are very close to Jacob Frères productions.

They are in excellent condition ; old restorations and small accidents (claws). New varnish, chairs covered with a stripped silk from Lelièvre. Horsehair trim on strap.
