A French Régence Boulle marquetry Cartel

A rare Régence Boulle marquetry Cartel composed of a polychrome mother-of-pearl and red, green and blue-horn marquetry on copper background.

The violin-shaped case surmounted by a gilt-bronze mythological figure depicting the Goddess Nyx – the Goddess of the Night.
The circular dial with twelve individual enamelled plaques with Roman numerals indicating the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes indicated by engraved brass handles.
Rich gilt-bronze ornamentation under the dial composed of a spread wings eagle defeating a snake above a radiating mask.
On four small cabriole legs.
The cul-de-lampe composed of the same polychrome marquetry with gilt bronze ornaments.
