MOREAU Mathurin (1822-1912) - Young girl with a jug

A large bronze sculpture with a double patina of medal and original brown, representing a young girl seated on a fountain and holding a broken jug in her hand. Signed Math Moreau hors concours, numbered 5966 and stamped médaille d'honneur on the terrace, it stands on a swivel base.
Antique cast iron from the late 19th century.
Mathurin MOREAU (1822-1912), a champion of feminine grace, entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 1841 in the workshops of Jules Ramey and Auguste Dumont. He won the second Prix de Rome in 1842 and was awarded an honorary medal at the Salon in 1897.
