Pair of enamelled copper torches, England 18th century

These very elegant torches are made of enameled copper, and are an 18th-century English work from the south of England. The wide base on which they rest is painted in polychrome with a rich decoration of bouquets of flowers alternating with midnight-blue reserves adorned with gilded motifs. The stem has three small knots and a larger one in the center, while the binnacle, like the rest of the surface, is punctuated with polychrome and gilded flowers and florets and blue reserves. Particularly decorative and attractive, these beautiful candlesticks have unfortunately suffered the ravages of time. The enamel is slightly damaged on the top of one tap, and the fine gilded brass mounting is missing from the underside of one foot.
18th century, England, probably Battersea.
Height 31 cm.
