Reliquary bust of a woman in carved walnut, Italy late 16th, early 17th century

Beautiful bust of a woman whose head is slightly tilted upwards, with wavy hair framing her face. A veil runs from the back to fall over the shoulders. A winged angel adorns the top. The same angel can be seen on the front of the bust and on the front of the base. Only the wings are in different positions: at the top, they are curled on either side of the head. In the center, they are horizontal. Below, they are folded on either side of the face.
This bust features very fine draping. In the center, beneath the angel, is an oval cabochon cartouche, framed by simple volutes and scrolls.
On the back, a plate of the same walnut has been cut to create the opening.
The base of the pedestal is molded.
