A Renaissance gold and enamel ring set with a ruby.
Western Europe, second half of the 16th century.

Ring size K 1/2 UK / 5.5 US.
The bezel measures 1.1 x 0.94cm.

The square bezel is set with a mixed oval cut ruby which is an old replacement. The ring is decorated in its original red and green enamels. The shank is adorned with with female and male caryatides and scrolls. The reverse of the bezel is carved with an esoteric symbol.
