The clown - Paul CHOCARNE MOREAU (1855-1930)

Paul CHORCANE MOREAU

1855-1930

Was a French painter specializing in genre scenes depicting child priests, little waiters and clowns with animals.
His father was a painting teacher and introduced him to painting at an early age.
He attended the Beaux-Arts in Paris, where his teacher was William Bouguereau.

He made his debut at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1882 and exhibited there throughout his career.
In 1900, he was awarded a 2nd-class medal and made a Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1906.

He has a great sense of detail, color, contrast and humor. His scenes are full of facetiousness and joy. The poetry and gaiety of everyday life
Enjoy the gestures and expressions of the characters, the clown's elaborate costume and the mimicry of the animals.
