Portrait of a man attributed to Levrac-Tournières, Paris circa 1730

A very fine portrait of a member of the nobility in a half-bust and three-quarter view. A curly, powdered wig frames his delicately complexioned face.
He is richly dressed in a lace collar, a fine brown jacket embroidered with gold and a silk cape lined with scarlet velvet.
His serene gaze fixes the viewer, giving him the bonhomie characteristic of Enlightenment gentlemen.

Oil on canvas (reupholstered), good condition, minor wear and restoration.

Beautiful original gilded oak frame.
Model carved with scrolls and acanthus leaves in spandrels, on a latticework background finely engraved in the primers.

Attributed to Robert Levrac-Tournières, circa 1730-1740.

*Robert Levrac-Tournières (1667-1752) was a French portrait painter. His brilliant career was spent almost exclusively in Paris. He combined the art inherited from Rigaud, whose pupil he was, with a production of small paintings in the Nordic style. Highly sought-after in his day, he portrayed the Regent, as well as numerous political figures, and left over two hundred portraits, most of which are in private collections. With delicate coloring, perfect propriety in pose and fit, and a certain elegance in drapery, he is considered a meticulous artist.
