Views of Lyon, early 19th century

These large paintings are painted with gouache on engraved lines, they have for subject the edges of Saône in Lyon, the one represents the cathedral Saint-Jean under the hill of Fourvières seen since the quay Saint-Antoine, the other is seen since the foot of the castle of Pierre de Cize vis-a-vis the quay Saint-Vincent and the attic of abundance in front of which is the bridge Serin destroyed since and replaced today by the bridge Koenig. These two landscapes are enlivened by the fresh colors of the gouache, they are animated by a few characters and constitute fascinating documents of what the quays of Lyon could be at the beginning of the 19th century. Both works have kept their original frames and glasses, and although in a good state of preservation, here and there appear some small spots of freckles and a slight scratch on one.
Era, around 1820.
Dimensions frame 62,5 cm x 82 cm, views one measures 40 cm by 61 cm and the other 41 cm x 62 cm.
