Pair of Empire period Quinquet sconces

Pair of sconces in varnished sheet metal in imitation of Vert de Mer marble, fitted with a quinquet lamp (later adapted to electricity).

The sheath tank is surmounted by the head of an ancient bearded warrior, wearing a plumed helmet decorated with the head of Medusa.

At the end of the 18th century, a chemist, Argand, perfected oil lighting, but it was the name of his worker Quinquet that was chosen to qualify this lighting system. This pair of sconces is similar to the example kept at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. (Visible on the MAD website).

Slight visible accidents, lampshades missing, cracked glass.

Paris, around 1800.

Height: 55 cm.
Width: 20cm.
Depth: 9cm.

Delivery possible worldwide.
